The Good And The Bad News

Today we have good and bad news for you.

Max’s philosophy is that it’s better to hear the bad news first.
Well, here they are. Due to the current crisis we have to cancel all exhibitions until after the summer.

Max also had to cancel his trip to Florence over the Easter week.
This is heartbreaking as we wanted to visit Olivier Mathieu and we also wanted to meet with Corrado Pinci who was the assistant of star photographer Angelo Frontoni. Corrado and Max have planned to publish a book with romantic photographies together. All this is now delayed until the crisis has ended.

We strongly recommend to visit the blog of Olivier Mathieu.
His books, which are blessed with incredible writing skills, and his interesting blog will banish your boredom in isolation in no time.

It is also merely possible to go on a shooting trip for Max because of the extensive curfews. But we try our best and maybe there is a ray of hope soon.

The good news are, we have a very new and very beautiful jeune fille for you. Max met her before the crisis really started and they already did a short photo shoot together. We will not reveal her name yet, but soon there will be a post with the first pictures here.

We are also pleased to inform you that the online shop is open without restrictions. However, there may be slight delays in shipping the pictures due to the current situation.

So why not just buy one of Max’s beautiful pictures and decorate your home with it! Maybe this will help you to get over this unpleasant time of isolation.

The pictures you see in this post have been done by Max just before the crisis started. It was one of the first days with a bit of sun after several weeks of constant rain. We love these pictures very much. They truly look like landscapes from a fairy tale.

Our thoughts are with you in this hard times and we hope Max’s pictures bring some joy into your heart!

Memories of an unforgettable Summer

Max has asked us to realize two new videos containing some of the most beautiful pictures he did during his Summer stay in south France.
We are proud to announce the premiere of the first of these two videos on our YouTube channel for Sunday at 20:00 MEZ.
The video will feature photos of Belle, Bilitis, Kia, Lycil and Yuna together with Ennio Morricone’s masterpiece For love one can die..

What Max says:

This summer produced some of the most beautiful pictures. I really enjoyed the days with the girls and will forever remember the time with them. I hope you all enjoy the pictures as much as I do.
At the moment I am working on some exhibitions and I am already organizing some new photographic adventures with the girls.
We will go to Florence and meet some interesting people there. Among others the writer Olivier Mathieu and the well known photographer Corrado Pinci, former collaborator of the famous photographer Angelo Frontoni, who unfortunately died in the meantime. We all have a hang for romantic photography and I will also talk with Corrado about a future project together.
Until May I will photograph a few more girls and then go back to the south for a longer period of time, where the light and the landscape allow me to take the most beautiful pictures and inspire my creativity. Until then I wish you all much joy with my pictures and would be happy to welcome some of you at my exhibitions.

Gabriel is in the Sky

GABRIEL EST DANS LE CIEL / GABRIEL IS IN THE SKY

The French writer Olivier Mathieu has devoted several books to David Hamilton. In fact he wrote a book about the American actress Dawn Dunlap (actress of “Laura the Shadows of Summer” 1979) and two books about David Hamilton. It was in these books that David Hamilton’s alleged “suicide” was first questioned. Thus, no one disputes Olivier Mathieu for being the forerunner of a defense of David Hamilton since he opened his blog “In defense of David Hamilton” in the aftermath of the death of the great British photographer.

One of these two books (“C’est David Hamilton qu’on assassine”) was prefaced by the great French-Swiss writer Roland Jaccard, who in the 1970s wrote the best-selling book L’exil intérieur (“The Inner Exile”), that inspired generations of readers. Roland Jaccard, born to a Jewish mother and an Austrian father in a family marked by an abundance of suicides, had an existence marked by many tragedies. A few years ago, he wrote a plea for euthanasia.​

Today we are saddened to announce the death of little Gabriel at the age of eight from brain cancer (brain stem infiltrating glioma), diagnosed unexpectedly on April 21, 2019. Gabriel was not Olivier’s biological son, but he was raised by him.​

This short life, this disease and this tragic death are the subject of the novel Dans le ciel (“In the Sky”) which Roland Jaccard has already mentioned on his literary blog, here.

As beautiful as the friendship between Olivier Mathieu and Roland Jaccard (who both admire Max’s work), so tragic is life, especially when it comes to children.

It should also be noted that, in this novel, David Hamilton is quoted four or five times. During his illness, the unfortunate little Gabriel sometimes observed, with admiration, David Hamilton’s album dedicated to the city of Venice. Last May, Gabriel was taken to Venice, where he spent a week. So he was able to see this wonderful city, which was the one of “Death in Venice”, one of Roland Jaccard and David Hamilton’s favorite films.

Memories of David Hamilton

One year has past since our last video with pictures of Max, chosen by the great master of light David Hamilton.

Without any question Max can be seen as the successor of David. He constantly tries to perfect his style and invents new techniques, enriching the genre of romantic photography.

From time to time Max showed his pictures to David Hamilton who gave his critique.
In this video meant to honor the death annual of David we have put some of the finest photographies of Max, rated as very well done by David himself.

The premiere of the video will take place tonight on 19:00 CET on the youtube channel of the Atelier Stolzenberg.

 

 

We want you to draw your attention especially to the following picture in the video.

It has been done by Max in a way that it almost looks like a painting.
We can assure you that no filters, neither analog nor digital, have been used to shoot this picture!
Just a simple analog 35mm camera, a single manual focus lens and the talent of Max and the beautiful jeunes filles as well as the beautiful light of south France created this picture.

This new technique was developed by Max and discussed with David just before his death.

It is no secret that Max often uses his old Minolta SRT-101 or X-700. This cameras are just the same camera that David used during the time he directed Bilitis and later in the mid eighties.
